Hi there
Dave and I are going to Essex - Wix - Manningtree area - so we will be close to the River Stour
We will be going this Saturday or Sunday. We will be near Mistley.
Anyone suggest a great area for wintering birds, and/or include their own place for birding.
I have been asking a few people about this already.
Love to find out as much information as I can.
This Forum is also the ideal place for all the latest bird species gossip.
Regards
Kathy and Dave
We were in Essex last month and can suggest a few options that we tried, its an area too readily overlooked:
Abberton reservoir (Essex WT) - mix of woodland, pasture and .. Reservoir - well set up reserve
The Naze - a mix of Essex WT and public access - blowing a gale when we were there and apparently slipping into the sea all too quickly!
Cudmore Grove, Mersea Island - windy there too (picture emerging here perhaps?) - they have a website worth viewing for latest news http://www.merseawildlife.blogspot.com/
Afraid we didn't get to the RSPB Stour Estuary reserve, but we got lucky in the most unlikely places - this kingfisher was on a road bridge in Coggeshall!

Hi Laurence
Thank you for your information.
I will debate this with Dave and see what we decide to do on the day. {thumbs up}
The area will be full of wintering shore birds and that is the main thing - and of course other interesting species too.
Dave loves Kingfishers and that would be a dream for us to catch a picture of one any day.
