Went on Sunday to see what was about! Finally saw a flock of about 50 redwings fly over!! Still not seen any in Shropshire! Hadn't been to Slimbridge for 3 years and it has changed quite a bit!
Saw some barnacle geese
Some greylags
One of many shovelers
A brief glimpse of a water rail! It was too quick to get decent image!
The someone spotted a peregrine by the water's edge. I decided to take pics even though it was so far away! I assumed it had caught a bird (lots of waders / ducks about there)
but it was having a bath!!
This swan 'ran' across the water towards us! Wasn't sure if it was going to take off just above our heads, but it stopped just short of the land!
There were lots of herons, tits, robins, ducks, geese, swans, grebes and more wood pigeons than I have ever seen before! Including these two which had been 'raised' in the hide!!
But one thing I didn't see at all was sparrows!!! Now that I do find surprising!
On the mammal side, we saw a bank vole and a weasel with prey run across a gateway but I wasn't quick enough with the camera for those!! A good day out all in all! (will upload more pics to the galleries...)

For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Hi MarJus, great photos and lovely to see Slimbridge again. We used to go two to three times a year when I was a child but I've not visited for nearly fifty years now.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Lovely photos as always. You always seem seem to be in the right place at the right time! We went to Fingringhoe Wick on Saturday which is a nature reserve but were hard put to see much at all apart from a Heron and grebes but too far away to get a good picture.

Thanks everyone! It was a good day and I would certainly recommend going! However, there are quite a few changes and quite honestly, I'm not sure they are all for the best.... Lots of new 'play' areas for kids. Great to get youngsters involved, but not having them all running around screaming!! Some of the hides have changed and one of them is now a large square hide with a wide entrance... this seemed to encourage the kids to run in and out making lots of noise! It was rather frustrating at times, but still an enjoyable day nevertheless!!
Good ones
