Hi All,
Bramble and I decided to meet up for a visit to Barnes over the weekend. We chose Sunday as I wanted to watch a couple of rugby games on Saturday.
Blimey was it hot!Whilst we were walking around in the heat most of the birds were resting in the shade. And they call us an intelligent species!
I think we must have seen close on 70 species by the end of the day. A few Dragons, a few Butterflies and the odd Grey Squirrel....Plenty of Snipe, a couple of Common Sandpipers and a Stonechat were the highlights.
When we stopped for lunch I was pleased to see that carrot cake was again on the menu, but that the slices were a lot smaller than before! Hmm.
Surprisingly, there weren't too many people about even though it was a Sunday. All gone down to the seaside I guess :)
But the heat was too much despite some cool breezes in the Hides and we called it a day.It was a pleasure and a delight to meet Sarah and hope to do it again!
Some photos of the day....
Blue-winged Teal
Bufflehead
Patagonian Teal
Red-breasted Goose
Ringed Teal
White-headed Duck
Wigeon
Wood Duck
A lovely day, albeit a record-breaking one for the heat.....
Best wishes, Graham

Nice report & nice place! Sad story about the Incredible Shrinking Carrot Cake.
Sorry, Sarah, but your Egyptian geese definitely aren't - I think they are Hawaiian or ne-ne geese.
:-)

Seriously thinking about trying harder!
Yes you're right there. I am rubbish a remembering waterfowl of any kind even when I've only just seen it. I should have taken notes really as Graham was such a good guide. They're my favourites too so you think I'd remember:(
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

I missed this as I was on holiday in Cornwall and The Malverns in Worcs - so I wasn't complaining about the heat at all, I was relishing it!!
Sounds like you had a terrific day out, and it's great to see so many forumites meeting up.
I love that little Bufflehead - I've never heard of them before. I like all exotic ducks and geese, so am always glad to see piccies of them on the forum. Thanks both of you - wonderful photos from you both.
Cheers, Linda.
