kingfishers-where to find them in aberdeenshire?

Hi All,

Does anyone happen to know where to see kingfishers in the aberdeenshire area?

I have heard that you can see them in the burn that flows through the grounds of haddo house, not sure if this is true or not-or if the birds are still there?

any tips much appreciated...

  • Hi everyone

I live very close to Seaton park and I'm down there quite often taking photographs of the wildlife there, Herons, Buzzards, Otters, Dippers, wagtails, Deer etc. Only sighting of a kingfisher there was on Tuesday 10/1/12, where i saw an electric blue flash flying really low to the water flying upstream toward the island, i did take a walk back up there but there was no sign of it. Is anyone able to tell me if they have a favourite perch around that island or somewhere else i might spot them in the park, I have never had a good look at a Kingfisher let alone Photograph one, I would love to have that opportunity. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sean

  • Hi Jennwren,

If you are ever visiting your parents in Fife, it might be worthwhile breaking your journey at Edzell. Join the path alongside the North Esk river by walking down a narrow road between the post office and the garage. I have seen a kingfisher near the little suspension bridge there on a couple of occasions.

  • Seen a kingfisher on the River Ugie last week, at Balmoor pumping station, it flew downstream over the fish counter @ about 1600hrs.
