Saw my first ever Nightjars on Wednesday evening in Northumberland.

My RSPB Group had an evenings walk on Wednesday evening this week. The highlight was going to view and see hopefully Nightjars in Northumberland where they do breed and have young. Well we waited until dusk after having a walk alongside a river bank earlier on in the evening. Then after waiting what seemed ages, the Group members heard Nightjars churring and then spectacularly we saw 4-6 Nightjars flying about. It was a fantastic evening and it was very very dark, when we walked back to the parked cars. I had, had a lift off one of the members with car sharing and I shared the cost of the petrol. On our way back to the parked cars in practically pitch darkness a member of out Group spotted a Toad with his torch at the side of the path, which was another highlight. I won't mention the place I saw the Nightjars, although it's a well known place in Northumberland by birdwatchers.
