After looking at travel and driving we have changed our plans for our Scotland trip and have just booked a cottage in Lochranza in the North of the Isle of Arran. So it is begging time again.we would appreciate any info on birding on the island from local or regular visiting birders. We have been before but many years ago and out knowledge is very dated. There are a number of raptors on Arran including Golden Eagle and Hen Harrier in fact one of my best Golden Eagle sighting was when climbing a ridge and it flew below us all lit up in the sun. As I say our knowledge is outdated so would love to hear from birders with more up to date gen.
Pete
Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Hi Pete, sounds like a fantastic place to visit and hope someone can come up with more details for you and some local knowledge. The only thing I can offer is a web link which may be helpful HERE Hope you have a great visit when the time comes and looking forward to hearing all about it in due course.

I would be quite interested about the birds on the Isle of Arran as well as I'm going on a weeks birdwatching holiday there in July with the Newcastle Upon Tyne RSPB Group.
Regards,
Ian.
Thanks Hazel that is a very comprehensive site looking forward to our visit already. We have a week in Northumberland already booked and a 3 day "twitchers" trip with Yorkshire Coast Nature later this month so hopefully we will get out and about plenty this year.
Ian,I hope you will have some good info from your trip.
Amazing place to visit, we have relations there and have camped the last 3 years at the campsite in Lochranza, opposite the distillery and once saw the golden eagle fly around. Don't know much about the birding life but am sure someone will help. You will have a fabulous time.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
How did you get on in Arran?
