WWT Slimbridge

Finally managed a trip to WWT Slimbridge in Gloucestershire on Sunday! Absolutely vile weather all day- blustery and very, very cold & damp- but absolutely worth it. Would fully recommend it to any of you wanting a good day out, it is absolutely fabulous for nature lovers. The amount of wildlife is just staggering, I came across several wildfowl species I had never come across before. Really enjoyed the surrounding countryside too, the views from the hides were fantastic & there were several noisy rookeries nearby which I loved being obsessed with corvids!! I'll definitely be posting some pictures later on, (not quite sure which forum would be best to post these in??) Just wondered if anyone else had been here & what were your thoughts on it? I don't live locally unfortunately so will probably be a one off for me, but I would love to go back at some point, perhaps during spring/summer when the wildlife on show would undoubtedly have changed, as would the scenery. But I fully recommend it as a nature lovers' day out, absolutely fab.
  • Hi Annabel, yes I've been to Slimbridge a few times and it a great place. Like you I don't live close so my visits are usually restricted to when I visit relatives who live in Gloucestershire.

Although it's quite interesting to see the exotic captive water fowl I prefer the wild birds out in the estuary and surrounding meadows.

My last visit was just before last Christmas. It was only for an afternoon but it was worthwhile especially seeing the Cranes and also the feeding of the Bewick's and ducks at sunset. I did a trip report HERE if you are interested.

As you've started this thread why not post your pictures here. I'm sure people would like to see them.
