Daisy Nook and Park Bridge.

At least one day a week I like to take myself off to the woods and fields here, it lies on the border between Oldham and Tameside two very large industrial areas. but once I step off the main road i'm in another world, the traffic noise is instantly replaced with birdsong and the sound of the river Medlock. the first sight that greeted me on my last walk was a great spotted woodpecker, working it's way up a tree from ground to treetop. I tried to take photos but the light was poor, further into the woods all hell was breaking loose as a pair of green woodpeckers, a couple of jays, and assorted smaller birds seemed to be in pursuit of what i think was a tawny owl. another time my heart was set racing when I saw a flash of red fur disappear around a tree trunk, could I have just seen a red squirrel, unfortunately not it jumped onto a stone wall and revealed itself to be a weasel, still great though i'd never seen one before or since. you will also find dippers and kingfishers on the river along with countless gray wagtails. it is my sanctuary and I almost always have the place to myself, well worth a visit if you are anywhere near the area.
