OH and I went down to the coast last Thursday and explored the Isle of Portland. We had coffee at the Heights Hotel and enjoyed the view of Chesil Beach in the warm spring sunshine then drove on down to Portland Bill. It almost felt like summer and we even left our coats in the car!
We watched the seabirds on the rocks for a while and then walked along the cliff path where we saw several pipits.
We also saw some pied wagtails, sparrows and a little bird which I think is a chiffchaff or a warbler of some kind. I am not going to guess which and no, I didn't hear it sing!
We saw a couple of swallows flying over the field beside the Bird Observatory which was a treat. We also saw several skylarks and the air was filled with their glorious song. We saw them quite close but they were much too difficult to photograph.
We walked down beside the Observatory garden towards the sea and then retraced our steps along the coastal path. After a welcome cup of tea in the cafe we headed home.

Hi SB
A great day out and i love the picture of your Meadow Pipet any day. You are lucky to get so many pictures at one time.
Love the Pied Waggie, and i agree with Mick about the Chiffy picture.
Not sure of the gulls as they are never the easiest to work out.
I will have a stab at adult Herring Gulls

Hi Micky
Did you mean the smiley? :-)
I'm almost tempted to ask for a 'smiley selection' that we could use on here, but we only have just got pictures working on both servers so I think I'll save it for a while.
There's always LOL or even ROFL as well :-)
Best wishes Chris

Hi Sarum Bat
Thanks for the lovely pics. I haven't seen a Chiffchaff yet, but I'm going to Dorset (near Weymouth) on my birthday weekend so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good weather and lot's of good shots of birds. :-)
Sounds like a lovely day out, and the photos are lovely :-)
