Portland Bill, Dorset

OH and I went down to the coast last Thursday and explored the Isle of Portland.  We had coffee at the Heights Hotel and enjoyed the view of Chesil Beach in the warm spring sunshine then drove on down to Portland Bill.  It almost felt like summer and we even left our coats in the car!

We watched the seabirds on the rocks for a while and then walked along the cliff path where we saw several pipits.

We also saw some pied wagtails, sparrows and a little bird which I think is a chiffchaff or a warbler of some kind.  I am not going to guess which and no, I didn't hear it sing!

We saw a couple of swallows flying over the field beside the Bird Observatory which was a treat.  We also saw several skylarks and the air was filled with their glorious song.  We saw them quite close but they were much too difficult to photograph.

We walked down beside the Observatory garden towards the sea and then retraced our steps along the coastal path.  After a welcome cup of tea in the cafe we headed home.
