Hi there
As everyone knows i have a Sparrow Colony living in a 'scruffy' bush in my front garden area.
I really wanted to know what the 'scruffy' bush was going to turn into, and now I have some clue!
I have enclosed a picture. Could someone tell me what the species is, and now it has bright yellow flowers growing everywhere!
What species of bush/hedges sparrows like to reside in? I know they like plain privets. Is there any particular species? Just interested in knowing?
Regards
Kathy and Dave
Your bush looks like a Forsythia to me. In my experience most birds just like a pretty dense hedge, we have a lot of Leylandii which are kept at about 6' high with Ivy growing up it and most of the birds hide in it at some point. Not sure about the different species liking different bushes but I am sure someone will tell you.
Lovely warm spring morning today - hope it continues as more birds venture out, poor things have been sheltering from the rain for ages now only coming out now and then to feed.

You have no control over what life & people throw at you - but you have full control over how you deal with it!
Hi Kathy
Yes it is a Forsythia. have one in my garden and the Sparrows always seem to spend a lot of time in there. As the previous post mentioned they like anything dense. I have just planted a Berberis to give them a little more protection, but whenever I walk around the Estate othere people's Forsythia's seem to be alive with the sound of Sparrows too.
Thank you for the bush ID, guys.
Well it appears that Sparrows have taste in coloured flowers. The bush is sprouting yellow coloured tendrels in all directions at the moment.
Interesting to hear that Sparrows like Forsythia to, and ever green trees such as Leylandii too.
Hi Blackbird (wave)
We have Forsythia too but I've never seen my sparrows in it at all perhaps it's because it's at the end of the garden and I've just not notice, but we do have a cottoneaster which they seem to love just sitting in and chatting about their day.
As a word of caution, not sure if anyone else has the same problem but our Forsythia hates being pruned.

Hi Kathy,
Mine live in the thick conifer (mostly but not all leylandi) hedges and privet bush - evergreen so they have cover all year round.
Cheers, Linda.

Hi Blackbird,
We've got Forsythia and Privet but they only bother with the Privet and they REALLY like it!

Why is there never enough time?
Hello Blackbird, I think the reason they like your ~Forsythia is because it's not too dense for them to fly into as needed.
I have a privet hedge running down the entire length of 1 side of my back garden, its always full of Sparrows, I do believe without this hedge I would not have many sparrows around here at all.
