Exe-tatic about the RSPB Avocet Cruise

I travelled from Edinburgh to the Exe Estuary in Devon because, despite previous attempts, I'd never seen an Avocet. Well I have now: scores of them at close range (they have blue legs !!) from the RSPB Avocet Cruise. The trip departed from the pretty town of Topsham and the excellent RSPB Volunteers, Derek & John, helped us to see all the incredible wildlife. Not just birds: A young (grey?) seal slid down the silt as we passed, incredibly close to the boat. Avocet, Grey Plover, Black Tailed Godwit, Brent Geese and many other species were all to be seen at close range. It was the perfect end to a hugely successful birding long-weekend. Highly recommended.
