This is a very unusual occurence in my garden. I have just seen three sparrows! Here is a very hasty snap through my living room window:
I have already seen a pair of blackbirds and a dunnock going in and out of the evergreen hedge so maybe they are going to join them and make a nest. I hope so :-)
There is something new to learn everyday...

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your encouraging wordsabout my spadgers. I haven't seen them again but I have heard them so they are still around :-)
Hi Sarum Bat,
I must be lucky then. We have a posse of about 20 sparrows in our garden. We have two high and thick privet hedges, one on either side of our garden and they love them, flying from one to the other making an amazing noise. I have a hanging basket bracket which i use to hang a large fat ball feeder. They squabble over it all day and make a terrible mess on the ground which benefits the Dunnocks and Blackbirds!! I'll try and get a pic of the mayhem and post it.
cheers
Ladybird
Why is there never enough time?
Oh yes, I can imagine the noise. There was a colony of about that size near a place I stayed in northen Spain last year. Very noisy! Fun to watch though. Lucky you. I shall look forward to seeing a photo.
There's nothing quite like the noise of a sparrow colony is there?! There are over 30 house sparrows in the colony in our garden and when they all get going it is quite an experience! I can't describe the noise, its not their usual chatter which you can hear, its like that but 10x louder! Funny how they all stop at once too - anyone noticed that?

I live in Hertfordshire and get lots of sparrows on fat ball feeders. With other birds including Starlings Jackdaws and Bluetits they eat 9 fat balls in two to three days. With two 1lb jam jars of table bird feed every day which is enjoyed by Doves,Pidgeons,Blackbirds and Dunnocks, I am having to watch my HK budget very carefully.
Yes Paul, I have noticed. It is quite eerie the way they do that! Deathly quiet all at once, The noise doesn't even taper out. It is loud ... then nothing.
Cheers, Linda.

I wonder why they do it. When I'm near the windows and they do it I immediately look for the Sparrowhawk or that darn cat from nextdoor. But there's nothing, they just seem to stop for no reason!
They're crazy at times, but we just love 'em :o)
