We went to one of our local RSPB reserves today, the one at West Sedgemoor not far from where we live.We were lucky to see the Herons nesting up In the trees.

We watched some Birds of Prey flying overhead. We also saw a Nuthatch and a treecreaper and many other small birds flying around on our woodland walk.We are now planning other visits to our local reserves.

Hi Kezmo,
This reserve has one of the largest colonys of nesting Grey Herons In the south west of England,It Is amazing to see their nests high up In the trees. The weather was quite nice but I think change Is on the way.
Hi littleOwl
Love the picture of your Herons in the Trees. Great weather with the blue sky too
They look although they are going to topple over with those long legs
Interesting to hear that there is a 'stable' Heronery in the UK
I know that their is a Little Egret colony at Leighton Moss too
It is amazing how some birds just flourish in some areas over others

HI littleowl,
I know that herons nest in trees as there is a small heronry near to where I live but all the same it does seem strange. The seem too big and leggy somehow! Well done on getting the photo. Great to see a treecreeper and a nuthatch too.

Hi Everyone,
It still baffles me how they nest so high up,been the size they are!
Lovely photo Littleowl, and what a pleasant trip you had.
There is a heronry in Greater Manchester at Heywood. It is on an island on a small lake in a public park. There are dozens of herons nesting there at the moment.
Cheers, Linda.
