Scotland

Hi everyone!

Sorry but I will be away from moderating the forum for the next 2 weeks as I take a trip to Scotland with plenty of wildlife in mind!

I am travelling up to Edinburgh on Thursday, Friday hopefully will result in landing on Bass Rock to photograph the Gannets and then its up to the Cairngorms (on the way stopping at a site where I could potentially see Beavers!). In the Cairngorms myself and my fiancee hope to do a bit of walking, we might try and hike up Cairngorm in the hope of seeing Mountain Hare, Ptarmigan and Dotterel too as well as take a trip over to Charnory Point to see the Bottlenose Dolphins!

After that we head to the Isle of Mull for a week of Otter and Eagle spotting and we also have a trip over to one of the seabird islands for some Puffin photography!

Camping all the way which will be "interesting" : )

Will unfortunately miss the last week of Springwatch but have it set to record so will catch up when I get back!

Hope everyone has a good June!

  • Sound like a great couple of weeks you have planned Ben, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Friday's weather forecast over at North Berwick looks pretty good with light winds and no rain so I'm sure your trip out to the Bass Rock will be no problem. We went round it last year (without landing on it) and it was fantastic. The numbers of Gannets and other seabirds is just amazing. Take lots of 'Jungle Formula' midge repellent with you though, especially since you're camping.!!

  • Thanks everyone! Really appreciate it!

Paul, appreciate the positive vibes! I have twice booked on to land on Bass Rock and both times it has been cancelled, once I fully understood as it was hammering it down all night and all morning and they said it would be unsafe and too slippy.....the second time was a glorious sunny day but very windy and they said the swell around the island would make landing impossible!

I guess all the conditions have to come together to make a landing possible but I agree that Friday looks fine, dry and calm so hope I get some luck and it stays that way!

Midge repellent is already packed! Just need to pack the car up tonight!
