As already mentioned in another thread, I am going up to Seahouses to visit the Farne Islands in three weeks time, and as I am staying for a couple of days, I wondered if anyone could recommend any other good birding sites fairly close to Seahouses that we could visit on the second day. Also, in the event (heaven forbid!!) that the weather was not good enough for the boat to sail, are there any other places which would be good for a bit of birdwatching whatever the weather? Don't ask for much do I?! Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions.

The coast is a nice walk (past Dunstanburgh castle). There are some cliffs near the castle that are populated by various birds. Lindesfarne is worth a stroll round with bins in hand as well.

There are also quite a few good bird watching areas around Druridge Bay as well, with a number of bird reserves owned by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

Ian.
Thanks Joe and Ian for your suggestions. I will look them up later and see what more I can find out!

For advice about Birding, Identification, field guides, binoculars, scopes, tripods, etc - put 'Birding Tips' into the search box
Thanks Seymour - will do.
Christine, try to make time for a visit to Lindisfarne (Holy Island),plenty of good birding on the causeway going across to the island as well as birding on the island itself.CHECK THE TIDE TIMES on the web though to get the maximum from your visit. There is a locally produced book on the island birds with some suggested walking routes available from Subuteo books.Another worthwhile trip is a cruise round Coquet Island from Amble harbour,no landing on the island but the boatman tries his best to make sure his passengers get good views of the birds. We prefer that to landing on the Farnes but that is a personal thing. One of our favourite areas we try to go at least once a year and are going to stop on the island for our 40th wedding anniversary this summer.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Thank you Pete. Both of those suggestions sound really interesting - think we should be coming up for the week instead of the weekend, but I have a feeling it is an area I will want to return to again!
We had better not shout too loud about it as part of the enjoyment is the lack of commercial hype in the area, glad yours was a good visit Bob looking foreward to the pics.
Same here Bob. I'm also glad you had a good trip and also looking forward to your pictures. I hope i get just as good weather for my trip their in June as you've had!
