..... in the Welsh countryside!!
Dad goes walking every Saturday, and last weekend, he walked in the Welshpool area and came across this 'sitting' in a field!!! It was some distance away but is quite clearly a vulture!!! An escapee I wonder? Had a look on the internet but no reports of 'missing vultures' anywhere!

Great shot - right place right time. Surely it must have escaped.

Cripes, what a sight!! Would be very interesting to find out where it came from! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Hi MarJus
My word that's certainly something you don't expect to see in the British countryside. Maybe someone found it before they had to report it as an escapee
Best wishes Chris

Did you find this report about vultures over Britain?
http://www.forteantimes.com/strangedays/misc/77/vultures_over_britain.html
Hi MarJus, what a great capture!
Have you contacted the bird recorder for that area!
From what I can see of the legs there appears to be no rings or jesses!!
Have you confirmed the species, Black Vulture comes to my mind but I'm not 100%
I have checked the bird atlas and bird guide websites and there has been no reports of any sightings of any vulture other than an Egyptian Vulture in norfolk in 2007.
I hope you can find out some more info and I will keep an eye for futher sightings been reported.

No that is certainly not something you see everyday. Good picture. Hope he is finding enough to eat.

I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

Thanks everyone!
No-one notified Buzzard. Should I contact the county recorder then ? I wondered if it was a turkey vulture but not sure really!
Thanks for the link Woodpecker! Very interesting! Had no idea so many had been sighted!
Wow, no you certainly don't come across one of those everyday. It looks a bit like the dead Turkey Vulture that we came across in Trinidad. That would have been one hell of a migration if it was. LOL
I hope you find out what species it is and where it came from.

Poor thing! It looks rather 'small' though. Dad said this one was very big (over 1 m high)....
It could be a 'black' although Google pics shows ones with black heads whereas this one is rather fleshy/pink coloured!
