Yorkshire Starlings

We braved the wind, rain and a little of the dreaded "white stuff" to see a Starling roost that had been reported in the Yorkshire Dales. We were lucky enough ,considering the weather, to watch at least 30,000 birds coming in to roost but probably due to the adverse weather they did not perform the fantastic murmeration flight patterns we hoped for.The birds just seemed to get into the roost in the conifers. For others who wish to see this it was at Grimwith reservoir just off the B 6265 between Pateley Bridge and Grassington on the South Eatern corner of the Yorkshire Dales.Plenty of free parking and toilets in the car park, walk onto the dam from the car park, well worth a look but try to pick a better evening than we did, maybe good for Christmas ramble one evening.
