Caquet, Warkworth and Amble;Estuary and river encounters

My first visit to the Northumberland Coast and despite the dodgy weather, very wet Saturday and windy Sunday managed to see some new birds, and some familiar ones.

Herons everywhere!

cormorant or shag?

beautiful Eiders

help with id appreciated with thes

i thought this little beaut may be a winchat youngster, it was singing nicely.

usual gulls

these guys were playing in the breeze

and this beauty was perched inside a tower at Warkwoth Castle

I did not get my boat trip out to around Coquet island to see the puffins, roseate terns, seals etc and the wind blew everything off the Druridge Bay

but enjoyed the visit.

  • It was was bit wet and wild up there wasn't it ? We did the Druridge Bay area on Friday on the way up,Budle Bay and Lindisfarne on a very rough Saturday and Stag Rocks Budle Bay and Fenham le Moor on Sunday.Thoroughly shattered and up to my max on pain killers over the weekend but I felt I had to push myself daft as it sounds, reckon this week will be a rest period.Great that you enjoyed your visit Andy it is a top birding spot in my opinion.Glad you got some photos as I have given up trying on mine.
