It was the perfect way to get home from work. No sooner had I set foot in the door Limpy announced he was off to Trimley Marshes, and would I like to come with him? Silly question, really! My enthusiasm was rewarded when this stunning bird stayed around to greet us on arrival:
We saw three of them near the visitor centre but this was the most photographically obliging one!
It was quite an afternoon for a fly.
These swans were clearly in the mood for flying - they circled the reserve several times before coming in to land.
These two were taking it a little easier.
A lapwing and his reflection looking for food.
What a lot of noisy oystercatchers! Loads of these flew over while we were there.
I love the expression on the face of the right-hand swan as it flies over!
Lapwings - there were loads of these flying about as well.
Coming in to land.
There was also a Siberian stonechat about - we didn't see it but one of the other visitors had and the photo was beautiful.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Thanks for sharing your Trimley pics. I was there last week and managed to see the two stonechats, Siberian and European - thanks to other birders with scopes to help me! Lovely ruff, spotted redshank, snipe, and I think a grey plover but trying to identify for sure (what do you think see below) and a super little wheatear to finish off! This swan certainly had his eye on me!

thanks for positive comments!
I like your additions as well, especially the swan.
You can see he's really looking at me. I don't know the other bird, it's a query for ID, but I reckon grey plover. Thanks
lovely photos! looked like you left work just in time :)
