Hey folks, just wondered whether anyone has visited this reserve and their thoughts on it. We are looking at a trip to the south coast in a couple of weeks for a day trip and that would be a new site for us but at 2.5 hours drive from home pretty much at my limit to then fit a days birding in too. Looks like an interesting site on the RSPB web site and I've not yet been disappointed but just thought I'd ask.
Slow down, look closer, appreciatte more.
We were at the furthest away hide, out on the long platform, the new hide which I think is called Otter Hide, I know someone on here will confirm. We have also seen several Bitterns, a real treat. From the same hide but on a different visit to the reserve we were lucky enough to see a pair of Water RAils feeding on the stream running along the boardwalk to the hide. Now I'm thinking about the place I want to go back, right now.
It's Island Mere Hide. Limpy, my husband, has seen water rails from there.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Yeah that sounds more like it. LOL!!!!
