Anyone have any tips for good spots to possibly see the red deer rutting in North East Scotland? Have a friend coming up here on holiday and would like to catch the red deer rutting, know of a couple of places where they may be seen such as Loch Muick but just wondering if anyone else has some places they'd suggest - I'm between Dundee and Aberdeen so within a couple of hours driving distance. Places with a nice walk for the dogs would also be a bonus!

Hi Kat,
The southern end of Lochearn may just be within your 2hr driving radius. Mr M and I had a short break at St Fillans last year at the end of September.
We did not actually seek out the deer, but they were on the hillside and roaring. I'm sure you would get local advice on where to go to see them. Loads of good dog walking trails there too.
You could try the Four Seasons Hotel for info - and a great bar meal!
Cheers, Claire

Thanks Claire, looks within our range (considering taking a trip across to Oban so could be good for a stop off en route!).
We were walking in Glen Doll today and heard many deer barking. The tree landscape obscured the hillside most of the time, but back at the car park, with binocs there was a super view of two or three stags on a ridge bellowing and a group of hinds on the hill nearby.
I was up there on Wednesday Claire :D
