Lake district Osprey's

Just got home from a great week's holiday up in the beautiful Lake District, the scenery (and weather for once) was beautiful but the highlight was seeing the magnificent Osprey's at Esthwaite water, we were able to watch them for well over half an hour on Thursday afternoon, then again on Saturday morning when we were lucky enough to see 3 of them and even see one dive in to get a fish only about 50 yards in front of us. A first for me and a great way to end a great week.
  • How wonderful, we have visited Bassenthwaite in the Northern Lakes many times and seen the Ospreys from Doddwood area. It's such a pleasure and I'm so glad you got great views of them.

Of all creatures, man is the most detestable, he is the only creature that inflicts pain for sport, knowing it to be pain.

  • Sounds wonderful, Yorkie :-)

If you saw 3 ospreys at Esthwaite, that suggests the pair there have bred successfully, too, which is excellent news - I'm fairly sure they failed last year, but information about that nest is generally sparse.

  • There was definitely 3 different birds as they were all in the air over the lake at the same time, all looked to have adult plumage. I didnt even realise Esthwaite has its own Osprey's, I thought they were confined to Bassenthwaite or ones just passing through. Certainly a fantastic sight though and made our trip to the lake District even more special.
