    Hi guys,

here's a Grey Partridge tip - they will rest in grass and crop fields and look like mounds of earth or 'other' natural lumps. So a group of lumps in an otherwise empty field is worth checking :))

  • Well there was me feeling jealous - thinking I haven't seen a "proper" partridge for donkey's years.

Used to see lots of red-legs, which took over in NW Norfolk where I used to was - almost certainly from kept stock as I was on a major shooting estate (HMQs)

Can't remember seeing any partridge in this bit of Cambs, until today!  At least two proper grey partridges chasing each other furiously in the adjoining farmers field - which has a sorry looking rape crop in it.  I think there were more but they pushed nearer to us and were hidden by the fence.  & no camera to hand.  Still, I now have another excuse to keep gazing out the bedroom window, for the next time!

Can't claim for BTO garden birdwatch unfortunately but did do a casual BirdTrack as it was such a surprise to see them.
