Last night when driving back from work I saw an owl flying just to the side of the road flying over a tree, I think it was a tawny but I'm not 100% sure as it wasn't exactly easy to see in the dark lit up by the street lighting.

Great sighting of the Owl
If you look at the same area where you saw the Owl there is a good chance that you could see it again. The favouite place for an Owl to rest in on top of a Fence post or similar. They like their patch, and stick by the areas that they know.
While living in Angus (Brechin) we went to work to same way route every day. While driving around a roundabout we could see a Barn Owl in the late afternoon/evening on our way home from work. We where lucky to see the same Barn Owl more than one time. It liked to sit on the same fence post surveying the area for prey no doubt.
What a joy to see, and I am sure you will see the same Owl again!
