We have just had a great weeks birding based on Embleton in Northumberland which was a great base for getting up and down this bit of coastline. As I am in the middle of a course of chemo (got a week off for good behaviour) we were a bit limited as to how much walking I could do but we did manage some good sightings. We normally go up to Northumberland during winter or the geese, divers and waders, this time it was terns that were the highlights and we had 5 different species but missed out on the Bridled Tern that was in the area for a few days. Our top days were probably a cruise round Coquet Island,an easy walking visit to Lindisfarne, and the Newton/long Nanny tern colony though this was pushing my walking limit a bit and we had to call in at the Joiners Arms at High Newton for a drink !!.Great area for birding and what great weather we had highly recommended to birders of all capabilities..
