Woolston Eyes is a private nature reserve owned by The Manchester Ship Canal company. Part of the site is still in use today for dumping sludge dredged out of the Ship Canal. You may have seen the reserve if you have ever driven north over the Thelwall Viaduct.

Thanks Alan. Actually I was more pleased to see the Black-necked Grebe chicks , Red Crested Pochard , and a Ruddy Duck all in the same afternoon.
Good selection of water fowl there, Galatas. I guess the star of the show has to be the Black-necked Grebe with chicks. Do the Ruddy Duck and RC Pochard breed there too.
Nice to get shots of the Reed Warbler. They can be elusive little devils.

The Ruddy has bred there in previous years. I don't know how many birds there are this year , we only saw one.
The R C Pochard will be an escape bird.
Wow, breeding Black-necked Grebes! And Ruddy Ducks aren't easy to see these days.

There have been counts of a dozen Black-necked Grebes recently. There are at least three broods showing at the moment.
Wow, what a fabulous selection of birds Galatas and some great photos. I've never seen a ruddy duck or black necked grebes - good to see them carrying the chicks on their backs like the GCGs! That looks a lovely place to visit.
