Hello, looking for advice re. hillwalking and skuas.
Had my first close up encounter last July on Hoy (see 5:51): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygedenqtcUo
Wondering when, if any, is best time to avoid the dive bombing on Hoy and Foula. Also, would it be right to think that the most aggressive skuas would be found in the middle of a colony such as on Hoy? More specifically, would walking through the Hoy colony cause birds to abandon nests?
I'm not a bird watcher but I do try to find out more about the birds I see when walking. The encounter with the skuas on Hoy was unforgettable -a bit scary at first but also strangely life affirming to be lined up in their sights!
