Treshnish Isles boat trip

Going to Mull in May (can't wait!!!!!!!!!). Have booked a day with a gentleman that does wildlife tours on my first full day there so that I can put his knowledge and advice to use for the rest of my week there! Been following his blog and am feeling quite optimistic about seeing quite a few species!

Anyhow, I'm also thinking of booking a boat trip to the Treshnish Isles. Has anyone done this? Any recommendations? For me to venture out on a boat it needs to be like a millpond, but I would so love to see the puffins and other seabirds that nest there!

Thanks!

  • Thank you Sparrow! :-D

I'm on count down now as I'm going in 12 weeks on Saturday! Once I start counting down I really do get excited! I've been wanting to go to Mull for years, but have always ended up returning to Skye (which I also love!). I'm intending on buying a couple more 2GB cards for my camera as well (I already have 3) as if I can manage 1,000 photos in one day at Martin Mere, imagine a whole week on Mull!!!!!!!

  • Oh yes, do please keep going on about it MarJus.  We will enjoy sharing your excitement.

Last night OH more or less agreed to a few days away which will include a trip to Skomer Island to see puffins (hopefully).   Hooray!!!  Once I have booked the B&B I shall start to get excited too :-)))

  • No problems Marjus! It sounds like you'll have a great trip.

I echo Sparrow's and Sarum Bat's sentiments that you should feel free to go on about it as much as you like, afterall that's what looking forward to holidays is all about!

  • Marjus, I went on the Treshnish Isles trip a couple of years ago. It's a wonderful experience getting so close to the puffins. Lovely to see all the other seabirds too.  You'll have a wonderful time!!

  • Ooh! Thanks so much everyone! This boat trip is going to be a definite now! Might even consider it if it's a little bit choppy!!

  • Hi Marjus several Otters in Salen bay and nice parking place,we always see Otters at Croggan mostly near a old wooden pier there or further along a walk on a track past a parking place on some grass, best to talk to other tourists who have been there a week. Most people go to the Sea Eagle hide while on Mull but you may have to book say a week or so before you go and with luck the pair will have some chicks.have a look at Mull Sea Eagle blog and if you want any information get in touch on my page.Suggest when you get off of ferry you pop into tourist information office right opposite the ferry and get a map and other freebies on offer. We are going all being well in September and you are making me excited thinking about it.

  • Hi MarJus, that sounds like a dream of a trip - and I just know you'll come back with loads of brilliant photos.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • Thanks Sooty! Have made a note about Salen! So eager to see an otter in the wild!!

    Thanks Squirrel! :-)
