Advice on Barn Owls in Essex

This is for people who have not, or would like to have, great views a Barn Owl in Essex.

As some of you may know Abberton Reservoir is a haven for lots different species of ducks and waders. But it is also home to two Barn Owls, they are really easy to see and really amazing.

If you go to the Laye de le Haye causeway and look  towards the direction of the visitor centre you should see a single oak tree in the field with an owl box in it.

If you go in the afternoon the Owls can be seen hunting along the tall grass on each side of the causeway. If you walk up the causeway a bit so you are in between the two bits of tall grass. The Barn Owls literally come within a few feet of you as they cross the road. Its amazing.

This is the view from the top of the hill surrounded by the Peninsular trail, with the owl box just to the right of me.You can see the road which the Owls cross.

And when you in the right place...                   Good luck!!!

Camera always at the ready!!
