Not far from us, about a 10 minute drive, there is a little piece of heaven that's called Holland Haven. It isn't very big, it has a scrape and a hide, the sea wall is to the south where you can watch the local and migratory birds. We went along late this afternoon in the hope of seeing Barn Owls and Little Owls which are well known for nesting in the area.
We managed to see the Barn Owl as it flew out. OH saw a Little Owl which I missed unfortunately as I was too busy worrying about someting yukky in the hide - typical!!. I managed to get a few photos of the Barn Owl but they're not very good because of my shaking hands and the fact we forgot to bring the tripod with us so please excuse the quality. I have tried to enhance them through the software as they were that bad. We also saw a Grey Heron which had been flying around in the area for ages and just as we were about to leave, it decided to land in the scrape not too far from the hide but by then the light had faded so again apologies for the quality.
Regards
Kerry

Great photos. I would love to see a Barn Owl in the wild

Great photos Kezmo and well spotted. I've yet to see a barn owl in the wild.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Barn owls are one of my favourite birds and I would love to photograph one in the wild. Well done you. I love that first one where it is looking right at you.

I love your photos, when is the best time to spot a barn owl ?
Xandra - depends on the owl species but Barn is usually dawn / dusk, short eared - anytime, little - can be anytime but more often early or late in day and Tawny - night! That's VERY general though and as with all wildlife, they don't follow rules!
Excellent Kezmo!! Good for you!! I've only seen barnies at night or dusk when I'm driving so no pics opportunities yet!! I guess you'll be going back! :-)

Very nice Kezmo, there is something magical about seeing Owls in the wild especially Barn. As for worrying about Quality. This is my best wild Barn Owl shot :-(
Never seem to have camera ready!
John :-)
For viewing or photography right place right time is everything. I'd rather be in the right place with poor kit than have the best kit and be in the wrong place.
Hi Kezmo
Great photo's,
I love owls, he must of flew right over you!
My sister has owls, when the weather get better ( when it stops snowing ) and warmer, she said she would show me where the nests are, the green woodpecker and king fishers as well.
She lives on a farm ( in the middle of nowhere, but its not for me ) they see lots of wildlife there.
on the lake they get lots of birds, not sure what birds as yet but we have seen herons.
i'm looking forward to warmer weather!!
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Great photo John. At least it is proof to you that you really did see it. I still have very blurred photos of L.T.T.s but I am keeping them for now until I get something better - assuming I ever do!!!!!
