Hello everyone. I haven't posted before but felt I had to tell everyone that I have just seen a Redwing in my garden. It's the first time I have ever seen one. Unfortunately, my camera battery was flat and I couldn't take a picture. The camera is now on charge and hopefully, he/she will come back.
Welcome Mother Carrie Thompson and Papapeteuk! If the fieldfares and redwings hang around until the big garden birdwatch, they may appear as a common garden species!!!

Hello, Sparrowhawk, Mother Carrie Thompson and Papapeteuk. Glad to see you are taking part in the forum.
WHEN IS THE BIRD WATCH I HAVE 6 RED WINGS IN GARDEN FOR LAST 2 DAYS THAT HOW I GOT ON TO THIS PAGES LOOKING UP ABOUT THEM ALL WAYS INTRESTED IN NATURE
Hello all, a first for me. Decided to register with RSPB as I spotted a bird in my garden that I did not know. It turns out to be a Fieldfare. He/she has now been with me a week as is happily eating it's way thru the berries on my hawthorn tree. Fiesty thing to it chases off all the other birds.
I HTINK WE HAVE ALL JOINED THIS WEEK DUE TO RARE SIGHTINGS OFF BIRDS
Dear All,
Thank you for all of your fabulous responses. Just typical..... I stand at the ready with my camera and not a redwing in sight! Baffled, my husband graciously braved the snow and ice to report back that every single berry on our 15ft holly bush had gone - for the first time in 7 years! Oh well, it was lovely while it lasted. I will continue to monitor your posts and will report back on any interesting developments - ooh wait, is that a wildebeest I see.......
Hello brooksie, glad you are enjoying seeing your fieldfare. You will enjoy the forum.
Sorry you didn't get your photograph Sparrowhawk, but that's birds for you.
Hello to all the newbies on this thread
Sparrowhawk: I know what you mean about the camera and the bird never meeting halfway at all.
There is a shortage of berries now and the birds must be scraping the bottom of the barrel to get some food now.
I think I will resort to throwing out some more fruit around near my feeders and hope a Redwing or a Fieldfare will pop in for a visit.
Would be a nice image to see.
By the way Sparrowhawk anytime with the updates
Regards
Kathy and Dave
