After spending a few mornings last December, watching starlings gather before taking flight, and even before that, listening to the gathering, or what I've nicknamed "the call to arms", as the starlings muster among the reeds, then gather just about atop the reeds, and often seemingly going back down, before yet another mustering atop the reeds, before finally taking flight.

The sound as they muster is quite something, ascending in crescendo before taking a peek at reed top level.

Natures communication system is something very underestimated, but very interesting if time is taken to watch and listen.
