A friend has asked for some jelp IDing a bird she has seen a few times in Consett (County Durham)I think it may be a Leucistic Crow or Rook but am not 100%.
Any Ideas?
..
Thanks.
Hi someone has posted a better photo and I (but I am used to being wrong) think the beak is more Rook like:
Would go for crow over rook.
It's both what you do and the way that you do it!
You cannot fly like an eagle with the wings of a wren. William Henry Hudson (1841 - 1922)
I'm no expert but the beak does look more Rook like to me??...
Either way a good advert as to why you shouldn't dye your own hair, that peroxide is nasty stuff!!!....
Higgy
Nice one Higgy
Scruff
Cheers, I only know that as all mine fell out some time ago.... too much trying to bleach it with Lemon juice in the sun many years ago probably!!....
I think it's a Rook - the beak is the right shape and the trousers are a touch baggy.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
hes a beauty.x
trishy :)
Picture of the little fella from earlier today at Eggleston Drive (Templetown) Consett. He seems pretty tame...!
Thanks Alan - he's a regular visitor to our garden. Just assumed that he was a Brown Crow, until someone pointed me in the direction of this website. Will get some better pictures and upload them this week.
He's also pretty tame and seems to like posing for close-up pictures!
It's getting quite a bit of interest from bird novices (like me) on my Facebook page at the moment:
