Hi All,
I'm hoping you can help me identify this fine feathered fellow as he/she has got me stuck! I spotted him last week in bushes next to the local canal in Nottinghamshire. He didn't seem to be part of a flock at all but otherwise I didn't see any particular behaviour. I was thinking it was some kind of Bunting but the slight yellow colour has confused me.

Hi Monkey Mafia, thank goodness seymouraves and aiki have better computers and eyesight than me.
The photo at the top appears to have a definate Red Crown on my computer, also my eyes are playing tricks with me, as Blackbird has mentioned I could see a red poll. I Have to be honest I didn't take a detailed close look at the picture, which I should when givivg identifications.
My apologies for my haste, it is indeed a Female Reed Bunting.

Many thanks for the very informative feedback. The link to the redpoll was very interesting and useful so thanks for forwarding it Buzzard and I kind of wish it was a redpoll as I think I spotted a male reed bunting during the same week but different location and different day. I'll submit the photo of that tonight as the winter plumage does cast some doubt on it and I don't have the perfect angle.
Aiki, that really is a good image you sent through of the female reed bunting and I agree with all that it's most likely the one I saw
