Weird Birdcall in Crowthorne, Berkshire

So I keep hearing this sound, during the day. Mostly in the morning between 9-11, but sometimes in the afternoon as well, but definitely before sunset. And it's driving me nuts, because I went through the typical bird catalog in this area and none of those birds match what I am hearing.

The sound is sounds pretty loud and far away, so my guess it's not a tiny bird, it's a vibrating trill but not too high-pitched, that sounds almost electronic. Prrrrp Prrrrp Prrrrp Prrrrp. It does that Prrrrp sound four times in a row. Then stops. Then goes again at various irregular intervals, but not all day, not even every day. If it helps, I live close to the Broadmoor Hospital, and it sounds like it's coming from the forest? But as sounds tends to carry, it's difficult to tell exactly.

  • Can you get a recording of the call? It's very tricky to ID a bird from a description of its call.
