Can anybody confirm what this bird is? I've looked in my book and I think it's a Linnet with the grey head and red bit on the top although the bars on the wing and body colour are saying Chaffinch. It was seen in a hedgerow around farmland which is not usually where I've seen Chaffinches.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
