Bee Identification please

Just been informed by someone from the Royal Entomological Society tha it's a tree bumble bee, Bombus hypnorum.

I'm surprised they say its a Tree Bumblebee, the ones we had in our garden did not look like the one in your photo as their thorax is normally orangey-red/brown colour. Wait for other opinions.

I had a quick search online and found evidence of tree bumble bees with worn thorax hair.

Oh ok James, maybe that explains it then; I'm not an expert on bees but other forumates may know a bit more than I do on bees. Lovely photos by the way.

Thanks Hazel. I'm always happy to be corrected. I was completely baffled which is why I emailed the images to the RES.
I'm about to post another (Sawfly) which is also confusing, I'm hoping an expert on Larvae will pop along.
