  • Love the Small Tortoiseshell Zo. I haven't seen one this year yet, though we do seem to have a distinct lack of butterflies around here this year, and very few varieties ... Frowning2

thanks. Thats interesting that you have seen a lack of butterflys around there this year with very few varietys Iv seen lots of them in the area iv also seen lots of Butterflies at both Wales and Kent. The peak of the most Butterflys iv seen is July in Gloucestershire before and after holiday then I saw lots on holiday

. A lot of the ones Hucclecote were Red admirals they were attracted to Budlea but there was also cabbage whites and Comma and Speckled wood and peacock. in Wales I saw cabbage whites and ringlet and Meadow Brown and Small Heath and Tortoiseshell. In Kent I saw lots of  Red admirals and there was some cabbage whites and peacock

. I saw no Red admirals in Wales but a variety Ringlet were most abundant in Wales. In Hucclecote in Gloucestershire and in Kent  there was  more Red admirals than Cabbage whites.

The weather was bad in sumerset so I didn’t see any but they do get Butterflies

but I went to Norfolk to see a old family member that has dementia last week and I saw a couple of cabbage whites when we went to a restraunt and saw lots of cabbage whites at his care home when we picked him up to go to the restraunt and later when we dropped him off

when I came back from holiday and went back to Kingsway there was 4 cabbage whites and 4 Red admirals in the garden but the Red admirals ignored the lavender and other plants and stayed on the Budlea for a long time unlike the cabbage whites

  • On our early morning walk this morning.  A painted lady.

The thing must have been sleepy as it let come right up closer to it.

On a Buddleia I planted in our front garden. Again, the butterfly let me come quite close.

It was on a droopy thing.

I read that changes to our climate in UK favour Red Admirals. I must admit I've seen far more this year than last few years. Not so many Peacocks. Cabbage Whites, the bane of my veg patch, seem common this year as well.

90% luck, 5% field craft, 5% camera skills.

  • Lucky you seeing the painted lady. I’ve seen one this year so far. I wish for many more.

You've seen just one more than me ... Confounded. I went for a walk with the camera this morning, and all I got was cold! It's supposed to be summer ... Tired face
