Starting off 2023 list already! 7 Winter moths - Operophtera brumata around the front door
Last years thread for newcomers can be found here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/279008/butterflies-and-moths-2022
Not sure what I will find this year as I will be possibly be doing more travelling in the UK
Cin J
First light trap in about 4 weeks (weather not been playing)
Not huge numbers and some notable absentees (Jersey Tiger moth being the main one), but there were some very nice quality visitors
Black Arches
Jersey Mocha
A number of Four-spotted Footman
It's a pity they are so destructive as they really are an attractive moth- it's a concern that they may start on native Box rather than ornamental
Box-tree Moth
Lovely Coxcomb Prominent

It failed to emerge :-(
Going to open up and see if I can see why with the guidance of an expert ofcourse ;-)

Have you handled it? does it feel light? or is there a bit of weight to it?
also shine a light behind it just to see if there is anything inside.
After that if you are 100% sure it has failed its a scalpel and tweezers job
