Butterflies and Moths 2023

None at frocester hill yesterday but there was some at the stream this afternoon

Speckled Wood (I think) in garden today..hiding in the Appletree....not sure I have had one visit before ;-)

My first Comma this season ...

Yes that is a speckled wood and it is a good picture even though you didn’t get a close up of it you can still see that it’s a speckled wood even though you didn’t get a close photo.

Did you know There are subspecies of speckled woods. The ones in the north are dark brown with white spots and those further south are dark brown with orange spots. I thought you might find that interesting.
Its nice that a speckled wood visited your apple tree I still havnt had any butterflys in the garden yet even though I saw some whites at the Daniels Brook locally in Gloucestershire

That’s a good photo. Its good you saw your first butterfly. I saw my first one on the 6th April it was very exiteing I havnt seen them fluttering around the stream for a long time. Strangely when I visited yesterday there wasn’t any

I purposefully went to Daniels Brook today cause it was warm and sunny rather than only abit warm but mainly in cooll and sunny. Cause that’s when I saw the cabbage white last time.  even though it was sunny the air wasnt as warm as it was the day I saw the cabbage white So It’s Possible it’s cause  even if it’s sunny it needs to be warm enough. 
butterflys are sensitive to temperature and it needs to be warm enough in order for them to get there wing muscles going.
