A few taken the other day

Gatekeeper

Oy-oy

Common Blue, wouldn't open it's wings

Tern

Babes on the rock

Babes on the beach, they have left their nests now and adjusting to life on the beach and waves before leaving for warmer climes.

Could be Common Terns or Artic, I am just not sure.

The beak being black with red tip seems to indicate Common Tern (I think)

Mum and babe, almost same size now.

They were only 10 foot away from me, so as you can see I took a few photos :-)

The colony has done well this year, with the otters keeping their distance.

Nice few hours spent looking around Cemlyn, and even dipping my feet in the sea while grandson had a swim, it might have been boiling on the Sunday but still didn't entice me in - well someone had to look after the butties!!

Lot to learn

  • Lovely to see the Terns - it looks like it was a very good day out

  • Fab stuff Gaynor, and you've obviously been practicing the birds in flight!
Lovely to see the seals too Grin Thanks for sharing your day
  • Wonderful set of photos and species Gaynor, I remember our first trip to Cemlyn Bay in September last year and calling in to see you on the way back for a cuppa :) !! You had brilliant views of the Terns and lovely to encounter the seals along with all the other beauties including butterflies. Thanks for posting up.

  • Looks like their all still thriving in your area...Great to see....thanks for sharing your lovely surroundings and wildlife ;-)

    (Pardon the Scottish Accent)

  • Lovely set of photos, and real treat to be close to the Terns, I only see them at Minsmere and at quite a distance.

  • Thanks everyone for your comments. It was a good walk we had around the Cemlyn reserve, supposed to be a Warden's Walk we signed up to go on and only five of us turned up! People must have realised that the birds wouldn't show so much with the heat on full as it was. Anyway it was maybe short on birds, but the Terns were on show, and also Sand Martins that I couldn't catch on camera (so no PB, my flight shots complete failure there) and Wendy I watched a Kestrel fly slowly over the cliff top, it was so lovely to see I didn't even try to take a pic!! Then down on all fours to watch a huge dragonfly on the cliff edge, (no good with heights) better not go to Bemton then on second thoughts!!!
Now if I can get my son to put his boat in the water this weekend there might be a chance of some closer shots of the seals, we'll see.

    Lot to learn

  • Lovely photos Gaynor, nice to see the swallows on the power lines, getting ready for their long flight south, and the terns, looking splendid.

I'm having big withdrawal symptoms from Anglesey, Wales (was supposed to be  up there next week, but cancelled until my leg is sorted), and getting out in general, in fact, I might have to reintroduce myself to my camera, it will have forgotten who I am! Scream Grinning

  • Thanks Mike, you get yourself sorted and in better health, Anglesey will still be here when you're up and about. Now the weather is a little iffy so you won't be missing too much, only the holiday traffic!!!
