Just starting off with a link to last years thread here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/201672/dazzling-damsels-and-dragons-2019#pifragment-4285=1
About a week ago the large Red Damsels arrived
& then yesterday caught a glimpse of a Broad Bodied Chaser
it then flew off across a field.
Happy hunting & stay safe all.
Best wishes

I find dragonflies and damselflies, which are still prevalent from the dinosaur era (said in a complimentary manner), fascinating. Not only fascinating, but the weird and wonderful way they go about their business, particularly mating and the fabulous colours they have.
Brilliant photos folks, keep them coming.

A Banded Demoiselle from Pennington. It kept flexing its wings which was nice as you don't normally get them with their wings open
It's also one of the few insects I've photographed while taking a c*@p. It did, not me!
And the female
Forgot to add the Red-eyed Damsel
Lot to learn

I took a walk in the woodland near our new residence and found a couple of established ponds; the banks were quite high in places and parts of the pond were obscured by reeds, grasses and ferns but it was a hive of activity with damselflies and the odd dragonfly. I had taken the 100-400mm lens with me so I grabbed a few shots.
I'm not sure of the ID's as it's a long time since I was photographing these types of insect and I can't remember all the different ones !
this is one of the ponds ........ you can see how overgrown in places it is but it must be excellent for all the inhabitants including birds.
I'm thinking this is a Common Blue damselfly but please correct it if I am mistaken
close up of the thorax
then there was this red damsel thingamabob ! could if be a large red ?
and there was also this dragonfly, a bit distant to get a decent pic Four spotted Chaser ?
everywhere I looked were blue damsels
It's a lovely wooded area - almost got lost as there are mown grassed tracks going off in all directions. More trips are on the agenda and only a few minutes from our door !
