Kicking off this new thread with pics from my pond tonight ... very mild & light rain, actually went out to put fresh food & water out for Hoggies as I'd read that it was mild enough for them to come out of hibernation ... imagine my surprise to discover these critters
One changed position
Looks to me as if the coupling is male on female ... what do you think!
Didn't have any females last year!
Saw some pics of spawn on FB last night at Lennon Legacy Project on the edge of Dartmoor!

Lucky you to still have them around. One of them in the penultimate photo seems to be clutching his favourite rock! Or about to do some exercises with the frog version of a medicine ball!! I've not seen any frogs or toads since the spawning. However, I did come across these strange bed fellows under a rock. A young newt curled up with a Dusky slug!
Needless to say, the rock was returned to keep them protected from the sun and predators

Actually found several young newts but that was the oddest pairing.
WendyBartter said:Btw, did you know that tadpoles like cucumber??
Um, no, can't say I did … and I daren't ask how you do!! I know they graze, but the thought of one swallowing a cucumber whole is amazing!!
One of two Froggies still in the pond today.
(Moving pictures to follow.) :-)
