Hi All, I took an executive decision & decided to amalgamate the Butterfly & Moth threads which may make it easier to find if it's used more!
These are the old threads from 2019 Beautiful butterflies https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/200195/beautiful-butterflies-2019#pifragment-4285=1
& Mostly Moths https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/198118/mostly-moths-2019/1273216#pifragment-4285=1
To start us off here are a few from the recent traps & wine rope,
this is a lovely Satelite from the 8th january
Best wishes

I had a Holly Blue flitting around this morning, unfortunately it wouldn't open its wings!

Can you find a deeper container that is narrower than the lid it's currently using & just rest the lid on top ... place a stick inside for it to cling to whilst inflating?
Can you take a pic?

Went to my Niece's house today to look after the boys whilst she had driving lesson ... she had earlier told me of three Elephant Hawkmoth caterpillars on one of her potted Fuschia's ... I was able to see for myself, they varied in size with one a different colouration
I resisted the impulse to pot one to watch it pupate as it's an overwintering job ... even though I've had success before it's long & uncertain! Well worth it if you've never seen the moth before though!
