Hi All, I took an executive decision & decided to amalgamate the Butterfly & Moth threads which may make it easier to find if it's used more!
These are the old threads from 2019 Beautiful butterflies https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/200195/beautiful-butterflies-2019#pifragment-4285=1
& Mostly Moths https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/198118/mostly-moths-2019/1273216#pifragment-4285=1
To start us off here are a few from the recent traps & wine rope,
this is a lovely Satelite from the 8th january

Here are my ideas :
1. Pale Oak Beauty
2. Brussels Lace.
3. Langmaids
4. Yeap
5. Heart & Dart
6. I think it's "Uncertain" - Hoplodrina alsines/octegenaria
7. Shuttle-shaped dart
8. A bit worn but probably Heart & Dart
Well done on the photos, they all look their best!
You'll have to get your trap organised Wendy, keep you on your toes.
Out for a walk yesterday & had a Broad-bordered Bee Hawkmoth, not a great shot but they whizz around,
& quite a few Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary's, as usual we chased the first few around all over the place, waiting for one to settle, then having got a shot, the rest just dawdle around as if the game is over,
PS : Lovely Small Copper Gaynor, one of my favourites & haven't seen one recently. I agree that they tend to hang around the same spot.
Nice stuff. I'm not sure I'll get to see a Fritillary this year especially as the sun hasn't bothered to put in an appearance for a week here so not many butterflies to spot even if you venture out in the unending gloom

Tall order for an ID of this one especially as pics not good ... arrived in a package containing three pots of Red Sword grass
Disappeared before I could get anything clearer!
