Well here goes, for better or worse, another year of moths. The old thread is here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/196070/mostly-moths-2018/1221500#1221500
To start us off a couple of silly ones that came to greet the first trap of the year on the night of the 1st to 2nd january. It was around 6-7°C all night & frosts ever since so I gave it a go.

In the butterfly house for now
Sat there for a bit drying out & suddenly took off trying vainly to escape
Vid made me giddy! Lol
Haven't heard it 'squeak' yet, only does it when annoyed & think one would have to be very brave to annoy something that big!
Feisty beggar innit!
Will have a look when l pick it up H ... will report back if I survive the ordeal! Lol
Lot to learn

Any news on your Deaths Head Moths Wendy? We got back from holiday a week ago & managed a couple of traps but the weather has gone belly up now. I had a day out looking for ladybirds with others & found a few & this caterpillar which I think is a moth larve but not sure. It looks similar to Gelechiidae. Any ideas?
Also found this one a Dark Dagger
As a newcomer to this thread, I'll post a few photos of what I believe is a lunar yellow underwing moth. Taken in July this year in the garden in East Dorset.
It would be great if someone confirms my identification.
