My son and I received a friendly welcome on our first visit to The Lodge today. I didn't get the name of the lady who offered directions and advice just as I'd collected a map from the shop, but she was well informed and also made a point of asking how we were getting on when we passed by the hut at the car park entrance on two occasions later on. We did plenty of walking today in some very changeable weather. Seeing both a great spotted and a green woodpecker was a highlight, and thanks to my sharp-eyed son we just caught sight of a hobby near Galley Hill too. The Lodge is quite local for us, so we may well pencil in another visit at a different time of year.
