I was sitting innocently at home last week when I got a surprise phone call from one of my fellow volunteers at Minsmere. Would I like to got out for a walk with her at some point that week? She is lucky enough to live in the lovely village of Snape so I didn't hesitate to accept her invitation, especially as my level of fitness is approaching woeful. We ended up having a nice walk around RSPB Snape and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, as well as seeing some nice birds:
A redshank. The reserve is on the bank of the river Alde and the view is stunning.
A lovely pair of teals, looking good with their glowing colours.
I haven't seen an avocet in weeks!
Got to have a gull in there......a dainty black-headed will do nicely.
A shelduck enjoying a bath.
We got all excited when we could see something moving in the reeds...... a lovely blue tit!
Finishing with a marsh harrier.
Looking forward to coming back here in better light - these photos have been tweaked somewhat!
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Glad you have a lovely day out with your friend Clare, Mmmmm wonder what you thought was in the reeds, something cute could it be?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Snape's going to be an interesting little reserve as it matures - sounds like it's also a great place for a walk with the camera :-)
