Well well well. Very interesting day at Saltholme on the Saturday just gone! Although I’ve seen this bird many times before.Plus also I’ve seen in years gone by, irruptions of this bird, including in my own street when hundreds of this birds eating all the berries of every tree at a breath taken speed then moving on to other street on to similar trees. This bird has been around at Saltholme for around 6 weeks. Can anyone guess what this bird is and I did get a photo of sorts with this bird near the top of this tree but the lighting was very poor. But I did get a photo that does show the detail of this bird. Many others at Saltholme on Saturday managed to see this for the first time the weekend just gone, which was nice to see. Here is my photo below!
Regards,
Ian.
Here are some details about Waxwings!

These are some photographs from one the Waxwing irruptions from Scandinavian countries in one of the local Scotland newspapers and not nesercerally from Russia but from Scandinavian countries where Waxwings nest/breed in Northern Europe. The first time I saw one of the occasional irruptions of Waxwing was around the early 1960’s. Can’t remember the exact year. As it was in my youth. But a few days after seeing hundreds of Waxwing in my street going through the berries on all the trees at a breathtaken speed. That was the only time that happened in the street where I live in urban Gateshead. Although I have seen irruptions of Waxwings in other places in the UK as well in North East England. A few days after seeing that happen in my street. The local Newcastle Upon Tyne daily newspaper had an article tiled: WAXWINGS INVADE NORTH EAST ENGLAND!

This was a short video made by a local birdwatcher well known and saw up to 300 Waxwings in the Peak District two months ago.
