Back again today, managed to get the right train connections and was in the Kingfisher Hide by just after 9am, unfortunately due to work commitments I was unable to hang around today, and only managed an hour and a bit, and sadly to say was disappointed not to see either of the Kingfishers... Yesterday afternoon was incredibly quiet with no real movement from 1pm onwards, is there a brood there? Seems doubtful, if there were surely the adults would by now be feeding the chicks. I left R&B to it and hoping they had better luck than I.
However a slow walk back to the centre and popping in to the Gadwall and Draper hides produced some lovely sightings of Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall, Lapwing, and to finish it off a lovely Green Sandpiper, and a couple of Male and Female Pheasants looking rather striking.
Please someone keep us up to date on the Kingfishers I'm crossing all sorts of bits in the hope that they have been successful.
Hi Phil
Female did show for a little while around 11.30, check out my pic.
Hi Phil & Ray
Not been since Friday when I emailed you about what was going on. Male looking after nest most of the time - no taking fish in. Not heard from Brian and not heard anyone saying they have seen fish being taken in since then. I had surmised they had hatched last week and would start feeding soon, certainly by now. The Centre reported they were feeding yesterday but it seems you didn't see any. May go myself tomorrow and will let you know.
Cheers Chaps,
Great Pic Ray.
Shall look forward to the update.
No fish seen
FYI. Did go today and spent over 4 hrs in Kingfisher hide. No nest activity. Juvenile came in 3 times and was chased twice by Adult Male who suddenly came in. Adult female came in once briefly and flew off. Since Friday very little activity or sights according to notes and some of you. From what has been going on, seems like bad news though Centre says they would not be around if abandoned nest.
Simon,
Many thanks for the update, interesting what's going on. Maybe they are holding on in the area 'to protect the area' from the juveniles and to not lose their territory.
Interesting to speculate, I'm sure we will find out at some point though just what is going on.
Again many thanks for the update.
Phil
